Exclusive Breastfeeding
Exclusive breastfeeding means that the
infant receives only breast milk . No other liquid or solids are given, not even water with the exception of oral rehydration solution or drops
/Syrups of vitamins, minerals or medicine.
Basic milk is the best for the baby and benefits
extends well beyond basic nutrition. In addition to containing all the vitamins
and nutrients, babies needs in the first month of life, breast milk which is
packed with disease-fighting substances that protect from illness.
The world Health Organisation recommends that infants
should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life to achieve
optimal growth, development and health.
Thereafter,to meet their evolving nutritional
requirements, infants should receive nutritionally adequate and safe
complementary food,while continue breastfeed for up to two years or beyond.
